Lore & Background

The campaign centers on the Bells Hells investigating the superstitions surrounding Ruidusborn, individuals born during flares of the red moon. They discovered that the gods crafted Ruidus to imprison an ancient evil named Predathos. The Ruby Vanguard, founded and led by Martinet Ludinus Da'leth, sought to free this entity using magical devices called Malleus Keys. The party interfered with the ritual at the Hellcatch Valley Malleus Key, preventing Predathos's release. Although they succeeded in stopping the full release, Ruidus became locked in place over the key, enabling travel between the moon and Exandria. Following this event, the Exandrian Accord formed a military alliance against Ruidian forces. Bells Hells joined Vox Machina and the Mighty Nein as coordinated strike teams to combat these threats.

In Their Own Story

The group's origins trace back to Jrusar, where members like Fearne Calloway arrived with Orym and Dorian Storm to support Orym's mission regarding an attack on Keyleth. Fresh Cut Grass (FCG), an automaton reassembled by the tinkerer Dancer in 838 PD, joined after helping his companions bury their dead. The party faced significant losses, including FCG sacrificing himself to kill Otohan Thull and save the group during a Ruidus scouting mission in April 2024. In response, Sam Riegel took a leave of absence for cancer treatment before returning with a new character, Braius Doomseed, in June 2024. The narrative also includes romantic developments, such as the relationship between Imogen Temult and Laudna, and moments where cast members reprised their previous characters from Vox Machina and The Mighty Nein.
